ASUS has officially confirmed to the Verge that it will sell a standalone version of the highly anticipated ROG Xbox Ally X20 OLED. Previously, the premium handheld was only planned as part of an expensive product bundle containing XREAL AR glasses.
Upgraded 7.4-inch OLED Display and Glare Mitigation

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 features a 7.4-inch OLED display, replacing the older IPS LCD panels. The screen supports a 30–120Hz variable refresh rate alongside a peak brightness of 1,400 nits.
Additionally, the display features a specialized anti-glare cover glass that significantly reduces reflections under indoor overhead lights. The screen also carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 and Dolby Vision certifications.

The Ally X20 introduces ergonomic upgrades, including cushy rubberized grips and a translucent black chassis with gold accents. One innovation is the “transforming” D-pad, which can rotate a quarter-turn to lock into either a four-way or an eight-way input configuration.
The handheld also features quiet, flush-sitting ABXY face buttons, redesigned bumpers, and quieter cooling fans.
High-End Hardware Specifications & Standalone Pricing Outlook
Under the hood, the Ally X20 runs on the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB SSD. It maintains the same 80Wh battery capacity found in the Ally X, which yields a roughly two hours of AAA gaming on a 25W TDP.
Due to memory chip inflation, the standalone version is expected to exceed the current $1,000 retail price of the standard ROG Ally X.
