Samsung launches the Galaxy S23 Series Smartphones

0

The South Korean company has recently launched its latest flagship smartphone to the market, the Samsung Galaxy S23. This smartphone series is composed of three smartphones just like before and they’re focusing on these features for this series — a better night camera and also a sustainable design. Features that won’t really make a big change on the outside but they will definitely affect the performance and your camera experience on the smartphone.

A similar design

Design-wise the Samsung Galaxy S23 series comes with a similar look to the previous generation with the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ featuring an almost similar design with a different camera module. It now features protruding camera circles at the back which made it look thinner as well while the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra features almost the same design.

The biggest difference between the previous generation is that it now comes with a flatter side which makes it more ergonomic than before and the grip is a lot better on the whole Galaxy S23 series smartphones. For the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, it might have a similar look but the display has fewer curves which makes the display ideal to write on of course, there’s the S-Pen as well on the Ultra and it now comes with text recognition from photos so you can copy objects and texts to another app.

For the display of the smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series comes in 6.1″, 6.6″ and 6.8″ for the Galaxy S23, S23+ and Ultra variants respectively. While the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are the only ones to pack a Full HD resolution while the Ultra variant comes with a QHD+ resolution. All of them packs a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz refresh rate.

Better battery

For the battery, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ got an upgrade with 200mAh battery on both smartphones. The smartphones are getting 3900mAh battery and also a 4700mAh battery inside respectively while the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is getting a 5000mAh battery which is similar to the previous generation

Powered by Snapdragon

Inside these devices is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and boy, there are a lot of upgrades for the CPU, GPU, and NPU. As for the RAM the smartphones come with 8GB of RAM and up to 12GB of RAM depending on the device.

For the software, the smartphone comes with OneUI 5.1 and they added more features including more flexible widgets and now, you can crop and copy objects or people just like on the iPhone without needing any other application.

Big camera upgrade

For the camera features of the smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ come with a 50MP main camera while the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a better 200MP main camera and just like before, the Ultra version comes with a better camera and better zooming capabilities.

Compared to the previous generation, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series smartphone is a lot better especially in terms of nightography as the smartphone now comes with night selfie, night portrait, and better night videos. So whether you want to use it for photos or video, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphone is a big upgrade.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series is just an incremental upgrade from the previous generation but if you want a smartphone that comes with one of the best cameras, a better grip, and ergonomics then you might want to take a look at these smartphones.

vivo V25 5G Review

0

One of the popular smartphones made for selfies last year is the vivo V25 series and in the series, there are three smartphones that belong in the family. And today, we’re gonna review the popular one and the middle of the pack, the vivo V25.

Design and Hardware

One of the features that we definitely loved about the vivo V25 is the design. Just like the previous generation, the vivo V23, the vivo V25 comes with a back cover that changes color whenever it is exposed to the sun. The one that we got turns orange whenever it’s under the sun.

It does have a flat frame and a boxy feel more than ever. It’s a trend that we’ve been seeing on smartphones today whether it’s on the flagship line or on entry-level smartphones. Going back to the color options of the vivo V25 does give off a very fashionable and stylish design. On a technical perspective, it’s really cool to see interchangeable colors on the back cover of the smartphone and still feels premium to hold.

The camera module of the vivo V25 is similar to the Y35 and it comes with three cameras but it does have a different camera setup as we got here a 64MP rear camera along with 8MP ultra wide-angle and 2MP macro camera

On one side, there’s the power button and also the volume rocker of the smartphone and of course, the fingerprint of the smartphone is an under-display one just like most mid-rangers out there. Of course, there’s no headphone jack in here

As for the battery, the smartphone comes with a 4500mAh battery inside and I was able to squeeze in a pretty long battery life of 15 hours and 19 minutes on PC Mark Work 2.0 battery test. For charging, the smartphone comes with a 44W Flash Charger and it was fast enough and mostly on par with most smartphones in its range. wow

Display

The display of the smartphone is still a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a full HD+ resolution and there’s a 90Hz resolution. Too bad it’s only at 90Hz and not 120Hz which can give smoother and better animations and transitions on the smartphone.

Nonetheless, the 90hz display of the smartphone is still pretty good and the colors are just fine. It’s not the brightest nor the best AMOLED display that we’ve seen in its range but this will definitely do in most cases. It does annoy me that this one still packs a notch instead of a punch-hole though.

Software and performance

For the software of the smartphone, the vivo V25 5G comes with FunTouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. Honestly, it was smooth and it was fun to use. Of course, it isn’t a perfect one and there are a lot of pre-installed applications but it works really fine.

As for the performance, it comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor inside along with 8GB of RAM that can be extended with 8GB more RAM. As for the benchmarks, here are the scores that we got on the smartphone:

We tried different games on the smartphone such as Call of Duty and Genshin Impact but of course, for heavier games, you need to set it at low to mid graphics settings. Nonetheless, I wished that the smartphone did pack a better and more powerful performance.

Camera

Now, this is where the vivo V25 5G shines. The front camera, there’s the 50MP front-facing camera that is pretty good for selfies which also makes the smartphone perfect for making TikToks and Instagram Reels as well. Check out the shots that we took using the smartphone.

For the selfies, we got pretty good colors, and even in low light, the selfies that we got are sharper than expected.

The rear camera of the smartphone was pretty as well and it’s on the flagship level or on the same level as the vivo V25 Pro but it’s pretty enough.

You can also take 4K videos on the front-facing camera if you want to.

Verdict

The vivo V25 5G is made for video, photos and for taking selfies. It’s actually pretty excellent at that. The design of the smartphone is something that you would love as well as we got here a color-changing back cover and a premium feel.

The smartphone might have a powerful enough MediaTek Dimensity 900 inside but I wished that it had a more powerful processor inside. Also, I feel that the smartphone should have a higher 120Hz refresh rate instead of the 90Hz refresh rate.

So if you’re the type of person who wants a smartphone for TikToks, selfies, vlogging and more. Then you might want to buy the vivo V25 5G.

vivo Y35 Review

0

The vivo Y35 is one of the newest smartphones from vivo to arrive last year and it’s made for those people who want a smartphone that they can use everyday whether that’s for work or for some casual gaming when you’re on a break. And today, we’re gonna do a review of this smartphone.

Design and hardware

The vivo Y35 that we got for review comes in Dawn Gold and it’s different from the vivo V25 as the color of this doesn’t change when it’s under direct sunlight but the color and material on the smartphone still look and feel good.

At the back, it might look similar to the vivo V25 but it does have a little bit different camera module. Yes, it does have a rectangle camera module at the back and it does house the same camera layout but it does have a different camera setup and it only says 50MP camera at the back.

The smartphone also comes with a flat frame which is made of plastic. The smartphone’s side also houses the volume rocker and the power button which is nicely placed on the side and below, we can see the USB-C port, speaker grill, and also the headphone jack of the smartphone.

Inside the smartphone is a 5000mAh battery and the battery life of the smartphone is just excellent as we got here a long battery life. In PC Mark Work 2.0 battery test, we got a score of:

One of the highlights of the smartphone is the 44W Fast Charger and yes, it does charge the smartphone really fast and it sometimes, I don’t even worry anymore whenever I forget the charge the smartphone before I go to sleep as I can charge the vivo Y35 in just a few minutes and it will last for a few more hours.

Display

For the display, the smartphone comes with a 6.58-inch Full HD+ IPS Display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It’s not the most ideal smartphone display that we have on the market but it does the job and at least, it comes with a 90Hz refresh rate on the smartphone.

As expected, the display of the smartphone is just fine if you’re into casual browsing on websites and of course for viewing images and videos. It’s not stellar but it’s not bad either. It doesn’t have the same colors as the AMOLED display but again, it will do just fine for basic tasks. There’s a notch at the top as well and if you plan on playing games, well, just don’t expect on high refresh rate on this smartphone.

Software and performance

When it comes to performance, the vivo Y35 comes with a Snapdragon 680 4G chipset inside. It’s an entry-level chipset and it will do most of the stuff that you need on the smartphone. Yes, you can run multiple basic apps without a hitch but don’t expect pretty fast performance on this one. But hey, at least the smartphone got an impressive battery life thanks to its chipset.

There’s a decent amount of storage as well inside as we got here a 256GB internal storage and as for the RAM, it comes with an 8GB of RAM that can expand even more up to 16GB with the Extended RAM feature, and honestly, it’s not that of a big deal for me.

When it comes to benchmarks, here are the scores that we got on the smartphone:

Basically, the smartphone can run most apps and even games as the Snapdragon 680 4G is very optimized for most apps and games in the market right now. But of course, set the graphics settings at the lowest settings with these smartphones.

Camera

The camera of the smartphone isn’t as good as the vivo V25 but it does have a 50MP main camera along with two 2MP rear cameras. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a dedicated ultrawide camera at the back.

Check out some of the shots that we took using the smartphone:

As for the camera quality, again, it’s not the same as the vivo V25 series smartphones. It isn’t stellar and it will work just fine on normal lighting conditions however on lowlight conditions, you would see a little bit of noise in the shots. Overall, the vivo Y35 will do just fine for typical needs for cameras including posting on social media.

Verdict

The vivo Y35 isn’t the best one out there in the market when it comes to hardware but it does the job done and it does come with a stylish design. For those people who are always on the go, you would appreciate the fast charging tech of the smartphone and of course, the processor that is optimized on most apps and games on the market. It might not be the fastest but again, it does work for your everyday needs.

The vivo Y35 is now available in the Philippines
