Samsung Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A73 5G Review

0

The Samsung Galaxy A series is the company’s very popular lineup as these midrange smartphones offer a decent performance that the masses need on a smartphone and also a price that won’t cost you an arm and leg. So if you want to know more, check out our quick review of the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A73 5G Review: Design and hardware

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G
Samsung Galaxy A73 5G

When it comes to its build, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G still comes with the same design DNA just like its Galaxy A brothers. We got here a polycarbonate body on the smartphone which gives us a lighter but less premium build but if you’re careless, you’ll be happy to know as this one won’t break easily as glass.

As for the design, it’s pretty much similar to the previous generation as we got here a protruding camera module that is one with the back cover of the smartphone. As for the ergonomics of the smartphone of the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, the flat back of the rounded sides doesn’t give the best ergonomics but its light and handy boy makes it easy to bring anywhere. While the Galaxy A73 5G is noticeably larger but I didn’t had any problems using tit as well.

As for the buttons, the smartphone comes with the power button on the side along with the volume rocker while the fingerprint scanner on the smartphone is still an under-fingerprint one.

One of the main highlights of the smartphones is that these two smartphones comes with IP67 water and dust resistance which makes the smartphone one of the few to sport this feature in the midrange segment. For the ports, the smartphone comes with a USB-C port below but unfortunately for those still using their wired headsets, there’s none here on the smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A73 5G Review: Display

The display is one of its biggest selling points as the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G features a decent 6.5-inch Full HD+ Display with a Super AMOLED Plus panel and also a 120Hz refresh rate and it was really good for a mid-range smartphone segment. While the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G comes with a larger 6.7-inch display with pretty much the same specs

The colors are vivid and it’s really bright as well since this one is a Super AMOLED display, we were able to maximize the fast 120Hz refresh rate of the smartphones which also gave me an advantage when playing games as this one is responsive.

I actually love the display of the smartphones as this one has always been the best feature of these smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A73 5G Review: Battery life

For the battery, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G sports a 5000mAh battery and that’s actually what we expect from a smartphone with this size since this one uses an Exynos 1280 processor inside, this one is quiet new to us in terms of power consumption. While the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G also packs the same capacity but with a larger size and a different processor

And for charging, unfortunately, the smartphones still maxed out at 25W so not much of improvements there.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G:

Surprisingly, the battery of the smartphone is pretty long-lasting despite the use of Exynos processor inside.

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G:

The Samsung Galaxy A73 5G might have a shorter battery life but it isn’t bad in our real-life usage.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A73 5G Review: Software and performance

For the software inside the smartphone, it’s still using OneUI and just like before, I really don’t have any problems with it as OneUI is user friendly and they really have good colors that are pleasing to the eyes and there are only a few bloatwares on the smartphone.

But what set these two smartphones apart are the processors. The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G uses an Exynos 1280 processor which is practically new and then there’s the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G that uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset which has been used by the Samsung Galaxy A52s and also some other smartphones so the chipset is already matured.

For the Exynos 1280, well, the performance is below the Snapdragon 778G 5G but it’s decent enough to run most of the games that are out in the market but don’t expect to have it set at the higher settings and some of the framerates are just inconsistent. Here are the scores for the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G:

While the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G with Snapdragon 778G 5G, we got a decent score on benchmarks:

But what I love about the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is that the processor is more matured and in turn, it is more optimized with games and almost all of the applications that we ran on the smartphone. We tried running Genshin Impact and it was set at lowest settings but it was playable so it was quiet good in my books.

While on the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, I’ve. noticed that there are some games like PUBG Mobile that doesn’t have the higher settings possible for a higher framerate on the game and in Genshin Impact, we also noticed that the framerates are inconsistent and the drops are noticeable. It would’ve been better if Samsung has used a Snapdragon processor on this one.

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G & Galaxy A53 5G Review: Camera

Both smartphones have different processors and also a different camera setup. For the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, the smartphone uses a 64MP main camera along with 12MP ultrawide camera along with 5MP macro lens and also 5MP depth camera. Honestly, only the main camera and also the ultrawide camera of the smartphone matters to me while the macro lens and also the depth sensor are pretty much useless to me.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

As for the quality, I’ve noticed that it’s a hit and miss and it’s probably because the post-processing of the camera need some update. I find the shots sometimes have a cooler colors than expected but the details are clear on most of our shots. Check out the shots that we took using the smartphone:

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G

I actually prefer the camera of this one as has a better quality in most of my shots. The colors are good and they’re sharper and I would prefer this one if you want a Samsung Galaxy A smartphone with a better camera. And the lenses? They’re different here as we got here a 108MP main camera along with 12MP ultrawide camera and also a 5MP macro and 5MP depth camera. Basically, the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G got a better shot in our overall test. Check out some of the shots that we took using the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G:

Verdict

These are some decent midrange smartphones from Samsung. They might not be the best when it comes to everything but they do got some features that you would definitely love including the Super AMOLED Plus display and also the IP67 Water and Dust Resistance which is perfect for those people who are always on the go.

They might have a different camera and SoC inside but they do perform just fine as long as you’re not too picky about it and you just want to use it for casual and medium gaming and also on posting social media.

So if you want to get one, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G are now available for Php25,490 and Php26,990 respectively

0

Looks like we’re getting a mobile game from Ubisoft and this time, it’s from the The Division series and it’s the The Division Resurgence. According to Ubisoft, it will have the gameplay mechanics of the first two games and it will still be a third-person shooter that will launch later on mobile devices.

The Division Resurgence is expected to give us an AAA experience with a new storyline in its open world universe and it will give us a better look on the story of the Division 1 & Division 2. With this mobile game, we will still be able to collect and upgrade tons of gears and weapons and also do solo and cooperative campaigns.
