Last Mobile World Congress, Nokia unveiled the Android-powered smartphone family or X Series and on March 11, 2014 in Manila, Nokia announced the launch of the Nokia X family with a slogan “Your Fastlane to Android Apps”. Hence the slogan, Consumers can run Android Apps through Nokia Store, third-party Stores and through installing APKs. “We believe this unique combination will resonate with consumers around the world and set a great precedent for the level of quality that can be achieved in the fast-growing, affordable smartphone segment” a word from Gary Chan, Head of Marketing Nokia Pan Asia. Alright, let’s see what’s in the Box!

Okay, “X” Marks the Spot! In the box, you’ll find the Nokia X Itself, a Set of earphones that matches your preferred color, Wall charger, Manual and Nokia Care card. Sadly, there’s no USB data cable provided but you can buy the cables less than 50Php.

Now you’re asking “How will we insert the SIM Cards and the MicroSD Cards? You can actually remove the back shell of the smartphone and remove the battery as well. The great thing about this is you can also have a another back shell with a different color to personalize it. Amazing, isn’t it?

The Volume Rocker and Power Key are placed at the Right side while on the Bottom is the Micro USB Port. At the back, you’ll find the small but very loud speaker and at the top is a headphone jack.

Having a Nokia X is like having an Android-powered Asha. You can install Android Application from anywhere including the third-party apps that are not available in the Nokia store.

The Fastlane user interface from Nokia X is like combining the UI of Asha and the Lumia. You can edit and enlarge the tiles, Move it to a folder and you can also add some Android widgets there. They have also preloaded some Games, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, ASTRO File Manager and More. And when installing an APK File, it’s still easy to install like a typical Android device. The music player is absolutely amazing for the people who want to share tunes with the very loud loudspeaker. And the battery lasts up to 6hrs (3G Data) & 10hrs. (Wifi). There will be no trouble when installing large Android apps because the Internal Storage is Partitioned at 1.29GB.

Is this the iOS 8?

0
The next version of the iOS operating system has been leaked at Weibo and it seems that Apple wants to push the iCloud even further on the mobile devices with their new apps that are already present on Macs.

The leak screenshot features some apps that are present on Mac like the preview app and the textedit app. The interesting new app in the screenshot is Healthbook. We really don’t know how that app will function but it will probably act like the S-health on the Samsung Galaxy devices. Because of this app, it gives us a clue that Apple might release a wearable device this year. Expect more changes once the next version of iOS is out.

Good luck Apple!

Pantech Vega Iron 2 with Snapdragon 805

0

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 was just announced earlier this year and it looks like we have found the first Android smartphone that’ll sport the powerful processor. The Snapdragon 805 would still run on a Quad-Core Krait 450 cores at 2.5 GHz and it will be paired by Adreno 420.

According to the leaks, it will just have a disappointing 2 GB of RAM instead of 3 GB and aside from the processor, there’s really nothing spectacular with the phone. Check out the specifications below:
  • 5.5-inch 1920 × 1080 screen
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor
  • 13 Megapixel Rear camera
  • 3 Megapixel Front camera
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB / 64GB of storage
  • USB 3.0
  • 2800 mAh battery
  • Support LTE-A
I doubt that it will come out in the Philippines but knowing that the Snapdragon 805 is now available on smartphones, we might see more brands to sport this powerful processor soon. Oh and yeah, the phone looks gorgeous.

Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear Fit and Gear 2 Official Hands-on

0

Normally, when Samsung has a new flagship product, they release an official hands-on video of their new product. If you’ve been following the latest tech news in the past few weeks, you probably know that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be coming soon along with the Gear Fit and Gear 2. Well, here are the official hands-on of the Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear Fit in where they’ll show you some of its features and its interface.

The video is kinda dull maybe because of its slow pace and less audio. Nonetheless, I still want a Samsung Galaxy S5 along with the Samsung Gear Fit. But of course, I can’t afford those devices yet. LOL. Expect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to be launched on April 11.

Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey

0

Last Friday, we were invited by National Geographic to the premiere of COSMOS: A Space-Time Odyssey. The new show will premier simultaneously on National Geographic Channel and FOX on March 12 at 10 PM.

COSMOS: A Space-Time Odyssey tells us the story of our universe and how the human beings developed their place in the universe and their concept of the laws of nature. The new show would feature some reinvented elements like the Cosmic Calendar and the Ship of Imagination from Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, a show that was hosted by Carl Sagan in the 80’s.

This series was produced by Seth MacFarlane. You might probably heard that guy because he is the man behind Family Guy and TED but this series proved us that he isn’t just great at making funny films but also in Astronomy.

Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey will be hosted by popular astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Author of New York Times bestsellers and also the man behind this meme:

Oppo Find 7 to sport 50 Megapixel Camera?

0

Do you think that the 41 Megapixel camera is already too big? Well, Oppo might have a better camera for you. It seems that Oppo Find 7, their next flagship phone, would have a 50 Megapixel camera according to their EXIF data. Yes, that’s not a typo. That’s 50.

Damn, the shots looks pretty damn great. I really want a smartphone that can match the ability of the Pureview camera and it looks like that smartphone is the Oppo Find 7. Well, I’m just hoping that this phone would be arriving in the Philippines soon.

JBL Synchros S100a Review

0

I never leave my place without an earphones on my bag or pocket. Why? Because music kills the boredom whenever I go and commute. These earphones also let me answer my calls without bringing out my phone to the public. As an Android user, I really find it hard to find accessories on my phone unlike the Apple iPhone but there’s an earphones from JBL that lets me control my Android smartphone. Check it out after the break

The JBL Synchros S100a features a flat wire which makes the earphone less tangled whenever I put in my pocket. I always prefer earphones with flat wires because they’re less tangled than the round one. I also notice that the coating was thick which makes it tougher and less prone to damages inside it.

The one that I got is the white one and despite having a white hue, This earphone has a metal feeling which makes it tougher. But despite that, the JBL Synchros S100a is very comfortable to use but I always get confuse which is the left or the right one. The earphone also sports an L-shape 90-degree audio jack.

I’ve used different tracks and music to test the JBL Synchros S100a and without a doubt, it performs pretty well in my test. Well, most of the time, I’ve used the JBL Synchros S100a on my phone because the buttons can control the volume and change tracks of Android smartphones.

The JBL Synchros S100a doesn’t disappoint when it comes to audio quality. I tried the earphones for gaming on my laptop and I use it everyday for my Android phone I feel that lows were pretty good but I wished the JBL Synchros S100a had more bass in it as I feel that It lacks more bass.

Overall, the JBL Synchros S100a doesn’t disappoint. Honestly, this isn’t the best earphones that we can see in the stores right now but it is definitely one of the stylish one. The JBL Synchros is now available for PHP5,299 at JBL Acoustical Space Megamall, JBL Sound Gallery BGC, and JBL Digital Dreams SM North
