However, instead of trying to impress with flashy gimmicks or experimental features, Xiaomi focused on something far more practical this year: photography.

After spending several weeks using the Xiaomi 17T as our daily driver, it’s clear that Xiaomi has created one of the most balanced smartphones in its category. Here’s why!
Xiaomi 17T Review: Design
At first glance, the Xiaomi 17T doesn’t scream for attention, and that’s exactly why we like it.
Instead of following trends with overly aggressive camera modules or flashy finishes, Xiaomi opted for a cleaner and more mature design language. The flat aluminum frame gives the device a modern flagship feel, while the matte rear panel does an excellent job of hiding fingerprints throughout the day.
Our review unit came in Opal White, which quickly became our favorite among the available color options. Depending on the lighting, the finish subtly shifts in appearance, adding character without becoming distracting.
Despite packing a large 6,500mAh battery and a sizeable camera system, the Xiaomi 17T remains surprisingly comfortable to hold.
Meanwhile, the IP68 dust and water resistance rating adds peace of mind, especially for users who frequently travel or spend time outdoors. It’s one of those features you hope you never need but appreciate when unexpected rain suddenly appears.
Overall, Xiaomi struck a good balance between practicality and premium aesthetics.
Xiaomi 17T Review: Display
The Xiaomi 17T features a 6.59-inch 1.5K POLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and simply put, it’s an excellent screen for everyday use.
Whether we were binge-watching shows, scrolling through social media, editing photos, or gaming, the display consistently delivered sharp visuals and vibrant colors. The combination of HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support makes content look rich and immersive, especially when watching supported content on streaming platforms.
Brightness is another highlight. With a peak brightness rating of 3,500 nits, visibility outdoors was never a problem. Even under direct sunlight, we had no issues framing shots, checking maps, or responding to messages.
The 120Hz refresh rate also helps make the entire device feel responsive. Scrolling feels fluid, animations look polished, and interactions feel seamless.
Simply put, this is one of the better displays you’ll find in this price segment.
Xiaomi 17T Review: Software and Performance
Powering the Xiaomi 17T is the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.
In everyday use, performance was consistently smooth. Apps launched quickly, multitasking felt effortless, and even heavier workloads such as photo editing and video exports didn’t slow the phone down.
Gaming performance is equally impressive. During our testing, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Genshin Impact all ran smoothly with stable frame rates. More importantly, the device maintained performance over longer sessions without becoming uncomfortably hot.
Thermal management deserves particular praise here. While the phone naturally warms up during demanding tasks, it never reached a point where performance noticeably dropped or the device became unpleasant to hold.
On the software side, the Xiaomi 17T runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Compared to previous generations, HyperOS feels more refined and streamlined. Animations are smoother, transitions feel polished, and the overall experience is less cluttered than older Xiaomi software.
The AI-powered features are also more practical than expected. Tools such as AI Writing, AI Interpreter, AI Speech Recognition, and Circle to Search proved genuinely useful throughout our testing. Rather than constantly demanding attention, these features remain available when needed and stay out of the way when they aren’t.
For users already invested in Xiaomi’s ecosystem, the improved interconnectivity features are another welcome addition. File transfers between Xiaomi devices are seamless, and we also found it easy to move files between the Xiaomi 17T and other gadgets during daily workflows.
Xiaomi 17T Review: Camera
This is where the Xiaomi 17T truly separates itself from much of the competition.
The camera system consists of a 50MP Leica main camera, a 50MP Leica 5x telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. While the entire setup performs well, it’s the telephoto camera that steals the show.
Unlike many smartphones that treat zoom cameras as secondary features, the Xiaomi 17T feels like it was built around its telephoto lens. Throughout our review period, it quickly became the camera we reached for most often.
Whether capturing city skylines, travel landmarks, candid street scenes, or distant subjects, the 5x zoom consistently delivered impressive detail and sharpness. Even when pushing zoom further using Xiaomi’s hybrid zoom capabilities, images remained surprisingly usable.
Portrait photography is another strength, as subjects appear naturally separated from the background while maintaining realistic proportions. Leica’s image tuning also contributes to a more refined look, with pleasing skin tones and cinematic depth.
Night photography also exceeded expectations. The main sensor captures plenty of detail while avoiding the over-processed appearance that still affects many smartphones today.

Simply put, the Xiaomi 17T offers one of the most compelling camera experiences available at this price point.
Xiaomi 17T Review: Battery
Battery life is another area where the Xiaomi 17T excels.
Its 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery easily lasts a full day, even under heavier workloads involving photography, gaming, video streaming, and social media use.
On lighter days, we regularly found ourselves ending the day with plenty of battery remaining. In some cases, the device comfortably stretched into a second day before needing a recharge.
Charging performance is equally dependable. The included 67W HyperCharge support significantly reduces downtime, making it easy to top up the battery before heading out.
Verdict
The Xiaomi 17T succeeds because it focuses on the features people actually use.
Rather than chasing trends, Xiaomi built a device around strong fundamentals: a fantastic display, dependable performance, excellent battery life, and most importantly, one of the best telephoto camera systems we’ve seen in this price category.
The Leica-powered 5x telephoto camera isn’t just a marketing feature. It’s genuinely useful and consistently delivers results that rival phones costing significantly more.
At Php33,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and Php37,999 for the 12GB + 512GB model, the Xiaomi 17T positions itself as one of the most complete upper midrange smartphones available today.
If photography — particularly zoom photography — matters to you, the Xiaomi 17T deserves a spot near the top of your shortlist. More importantly, it proves that flagship-grade camera experiences no longer have to come with flagship-level price tags.
