0

Ladies and Gentlemen, the next flagship smartphone of Samsung are here and as expected, these are the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the S9+. Both smartphones pack flagship specs inside and yes, these smartphones are really premium.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ still have the similar look of the previous generation but of course, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ now have some new awesome features for their customers. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 still packs a single lens camera, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ now have a dual lens-camera which can be used for live focus and optical zooming.

The fingerprint placement dilemma has now been fixed in both smartphones as the fingerprint scanner is now placed below the camera of the smartphone which will prevent you from smudging the glass of the camera. The cameras now have a f/1.5 aperture which means that it can take better and brighter photos. They also have a feature called Dual Aperture in where the camera uses f/2.4 for bright conditions and f/1.5 for low light conditions. This feature will let you have better photos at all conditions.

They also have a new feature called AR Emoji which works similar to Animoji but this one isn’t better than the iPhone X but you can create your own avatar and send it to your friends. Cool huh?

Another cool feature in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the S9+ is the ability to capture slomo at 960fps. That’s on par with the one on Sony Xperia smartphones and I really love to take fast moving objects with this one.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 packs a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display while the Samsung Galaxy S9+ packs a 6.2-inch QHD Super AMOLED display which is similar to the previous generation. Both smartphones pack a 10nm Octa-Core Exynos processor which is their latest processor. The Samsung Galaxy S9 features a 64GB Internal storage expandable via MicroSD with 4GB RAM while the Samsung Galaxy S9+ features a 6GB RAM and it comes in 64GB/128GB/256GB variants.

Aesthetically, the Samsung Galaxy S9 series are very similar to the previous generation except that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ now have a different fingerprint scanner position and also, the bigger Galaxy S9+ has a dual lens camera. The Bixby AI has also been upgraded on this one and you’ll be amazed on how smart your smartphone is when it comes to live translation and also on adding make-ups to your selfies and taking photos. Cherry Mobile Desire R8 Review

1

The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is definitely one of the best smartphones from Cherry Mobile that we’ve reviewed. It packs a premium build and also a dual-lens camera that can really do good bokeh shots. So what do I think about the smartphone? Check it out in our review below.

Design and Hardware

The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is a premium smartphone from the Filipino company. It packs an aluminum body which made the smartphone really premium and good to hold and also the curves of the smartphone is just comfortable to the hand.

It has a unibody design which is why you cannot remove the back of the smartphone. The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 also features a home button that also serves as the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone that can be pressed down and also two capacitive buttons just beside of it. However, some people might get confused with its design as it is only represented by two-dot buttons. Speaking of the fingerprint scanner, the smartphone can swiftly recognize my fingerprint however, it’s still not the best one in its price range.

The smartphone features a USB Type-C design. It’s not a first from Cherry Mobile but I really appreciate that Cherry Mobile has adapted that port. The 3.5mm audio jack of the smartphone is placed at the top of the smartphone as the speaker grills are placed below along with the USB Type-C Port.

Display

The display of the smartphone is one of my favorite features of the smartphone. It features a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display and actually, I was surprised as I really like the quality of the display of the smartphone. The colors are good, the viewing angles are great and it’s even better than most Cherry Mobile smartphones.

Battery Life

The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 packs a 3000mAh battery inside. It might look good to the paper however in my use, I notice that the smartphone’s battery dropped quickly. Bringing a powerbank with your or a charger is highly recommended when using the smartphone as the Cherry Mobile Desire R8 might not last a single workday even in average use.

Fine Processing Power

The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 packs a MediaTek 6750T chipset inside along with 3GB of RAM. Not the best in the market but it can definitely do fine when it comes to gaming. Yes, you may not play the latest games at the highest settings but you can definitely play those games by just turning down its graphics settings.

Playing games such as NBA and Asphalt 8 will be fine in this smartphone as long as you turned settings. The apps? I really didn’t have any problem when using the smartphone in different applications.

However, I had a problem with its software. Despite being a premium smartphone from the brand, I’m bombarded with ads most of the time.

Camera

The main feature of the Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is the dual lens camera. It’s not a fake dual lens camera as the bokeh shots really work on this smartphone. It features a 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear camera setup.

In my use, I got some good shots on the smartphone and when I used the bokeh mode, it can really take portrait shots with bokeh but it’s not perfect. Also, I noticed that the shots are a little reddish than I thought. But overall, the Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is definitely one of the best Cherry Mobile smartphone shooters out there. Check out the shots that I took using the smartphone.

Verdict

Without a doubt, the Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is one of the best Cherry Mobile smartphones out there. It has a solid design with an aluminum body which really adds to the premium feel of the smartphone, it has a decent software, the camera is really great for a Cherry Mobile smartphone, and it has a decent performance. The dual lens camera of the smartphone works, however, I still wished that Cherry Mobile still fixes it as it doesn’t perform to my expectations. But again, it is still great for a Cherry Mobile smartphone.

Overall, I like the solid design of the smartphone and its camera, however, it falls short on the battery life.

OPPO F5 Youth Review

5

The OPPO F5 Youth is the affordable variant in the F5 series. It packs the same design and the same software of the OPPO F5 and F5 6GB however, the Youth has a toned hardware inside in where the smartphone has a camera with a lower megapixel count and also a lower RAM. So what do I think about the smartphone? Check it out on our review of the smartphone below

Hardware and Design

The OPPO F5 Youth has a similar design to the OPPO F5. The smartphone has a full-screen display and again, there’s no difference to the one on the OPPO F5. The smartphone feels light since the smartphone is made up of plastic. Nothing to worry about it as the smartphone still feels fine.

The OPPO F5 Youth still uses a Micro USB port despite most smartphones being released recently uses a USB Type-C Port. This one doesn’t come with fast charging too and actually I really miss that feature on OPPO smartphones.

Holding the smartphone was comfortable. If you’re not confident of holding the smartphone because of its large display,  you don’t have to worry as this one is ergonomic thanks to its 18:9 display aspect ratio which makes the smartphone narrower despite having a large screen display.

The fingerprint scanner of the smartphone is ergonomically placed at the back which makes the smartphone easier to unlock and speaking of unlock, the face unlock technology of the OPPO F5 Youth is as fast and actually, I barely use the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone but of course, that’s pretty useless when you’re in the dark.

Display

The OPPO F5 Youth still uses a 6.0-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160*1080. The display isn’t the best in the market but it has pretty good colors and I really love the thin bezel on the smartphone along with the rounded edges. It just adds to the beauty of the smartphone.

The colors are good and I can easily use this smartphone outside even in direct sunlight. Gaming on an 18:9 display is better too as I don’t have any problems with blocking most of the view as the smartphone is wider when playing landscape.

Overall, I love the fullscreen display of the smartphone and its FHD+ display with rounded edges.

Software

The OPPO F5 Youth is running on ColorOS 3.2 with Android 7.1 inside. The UI of ColorOS 3.2 is fun to use and it’s very similar to other OPPO smartphones. So if you came from an OPPO smartphone, well, you won’t have any problems with it.

However for the first time OPPO smartphone users, some might get confused with its UI as this has a home screen with no app drawer. Don’t worry, it’s still user-friendly and everything on the smartphone is easy to access.

As expected, it comes with some apps including phone manager that lets you clean up and accelerate the smartphone and also to optimize the applications and memory. Pretty useful apps that most smartphones have these days.

Performance

Here’s the interesting thing about the OPPO F5 Youth. Despite being branded as the Youth variant with a smaller RAM and a different camera, OPPO still opted to choose the same chipset – MediaTek Helio P23. It’s actually powerful and it can run most games without problems.

The smartphone doesn’t heat up that much when playing which is a good thing. Oh, and when it comes to games, you don’t have to worry about it that much as the OPPO F5 Youth was able to play most games without problems including Rules of Survival. Most of the games would run at the highest settings however if you plan on playing other 3D heavy games then better set it at low to medium settings to achieve a smooth gameplay.

Despite having only a 3GB of RAM, the real-life performance and experience wasn’t really affected. Yes, it will be slower compared to the OPPO F5 but for casual smartphone users, it wouldn’t be a really big problem.

Battery Life

The battery life performance of the OPPO F5 Youth is very much the same with the OPPO F5. It will last a day of normal usage without even asking for a power bank, however, if you’re into heavy gaming then better bring power bank or charger always with you.

Camera

The OPPO F5 Youth sports a 16-megapixel f/2.0 camera on the front with AI Beautification technology. With this tech, the beautification feels more natural. And yes, the beautification of the camera looks good, however, I noticed that there’s a big difference when it comes to the camera of the OPPO F5 to the OPPO F5 Youth. I noticed that the quality is a lot better on the OPPO F5 and I can immediately notice the details are less sharper compared to the OPPO F5.

Don’t get me wrong, the OPPO F5 Youth’s camera performs well but it isn’t as near as the OPPO F5 in terms of quality. The colors are just fine sometimes however at lowlight, it’s a hit and miss. The depth effect on the blur mode is still good but not the best and it sometimes misses the edges.

Check out the shots that I took using the smartphone below.

As expected, the OPPO F5 is still superior when it comes to camera and the OPPO F5 Youth has just a fine camera at well-lit conditions however at lowlight, the images are little bit soft.

Verdict

OPPO did a great job with the OPPO F5 and with the OPPO F5 Youth? Well, I’m really happy with it. Aesthetically, the F5 series doesn’t have a difference with each other but inside it is where you can feel the difference. If you want a more affordable OPPO F5 then go for the OPPO F5 Youth however if you can, better go for the OPPO F5 which has a better camera and a larger RAM.

0

Vivo has outed a new update in where their smartphone, the Vivo Y69 will now have Face ID access. Basically, this feature will allow the smartphone to be unlocked by raising the smartphone in front of you and letting you scan your face.

So now, the Vivo Y69 can now be unlocked not only by using the fingerprint scanner but now also with Face Unlock.

You can now update the Vivo Y69 using the system update at the settings.

ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro Review

1

The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is available for a while now. It’s the best smartphone that the Taiwanese brand can offer right now. It goes against flagship smartphones in the market as this smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 6GB of RAM. It’s not the best hardware that you can find on a smartphone but the chipset and its RAM puts the smartphone among one of the most powerful smartphones available for the consumers. So what do I think about it? Check out in our review of the smartphone below.

Hardware and Design

This is the best ASUS Zenfone smartphone to date. It features a glass black which makes the smartphone premium to hold but also more prone to breakage but don’t worry because the smartphone will come with a jelly case. Also, the smartphone has a flat glass back which may look really attractive to some but it also made the smartphone a little bit less ergonomic and straining to the hand and also slippery. So yeah, I would really suggest that you use the included Jelly case on the Zenfone 4 Pro.

The smartphone also features a metal bumper. Yes, it adds to the premium feel of the smartphone and oh, I really love the mirror reflection at the glass back of the smartphone. But yeah, it’s a fingerprint magnet if you don’t use the included jelly case on the smartphone.

Thankfully, ASUS didn’t ditch the 3.5mm audio jack on this smartphone. Yes, there’s USB Type-C but the smartphone didn’t choose the route of where most flagships are going right now in where you need a dongle to plug in a 3.5mm on the smartphone.

The volume rocker and the power button of the smartphone are rightly placed on the right side of the smartphone while the smartphone still chooses to have 2 capacitive buttons for the recent apps and the back button along with the home button that also serves as the fingerprint scanner that can’t be pressed down. Unfortunately, the quickest way to unlock the smartphone is to use the fingerprint scanner as the Zenfone 4 Pro doesn’t have face unlock.

The speaker of the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro isn’t the best in the market and I would actually ask for more for a flagship smartphone. But again, I’m still thankful that ASUS still didn’t ditch the 3.5mm audio jack for speakers and earphones while charging the smartphone using USB Type-C.

Unfortunately, the smartphone isn’t water and dust resistant. So yeah, you can’t really bring your smartphone to the showers to watch….you know…some videos…..my videos….. AT MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL! (Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel over here)

Display

2017 is the year where smartphones with 18:9 display are introduced and unfortunately for the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro, it’s still using a 16:9 display aspect ratio. You know, it’s not actually that bad as this display aspect ratio means that you can watch videos on YouTube without black bars on the side and the smartphone is also wider.

The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is now using an AMOLED display. It’s a big upgrade from its Zenfone brothers and the colors just really pop out on the display. I’m a big fan of AMOLED and it really shows the vivid colors of the display and also, the blacks are really black. There’s an always-on display on the smartphone too so I can always check the time and also the notifications of the smartphone.

Despite being a flagship smartphone, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is still using a Full HD resolution in where most flagship smartphone these days are now running on 1440p displays. Well, you won’t really notice that one unless you use your smartphone for VR.

Again, the display of the smartphone is really nice however, it is still not the best one in the market. But for a flagship smartphone, the display of the smartphone is good.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro comes at one of the top smartphones with an amazing performance. The smartphone runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 6GB of RAM. I know, it’s still not the best as there are flagship smartphones that have an 8GB of RAM but the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is blazing fast.

When it comes to Antutu, I got a score of 170083 which is freakin amazing. Oh, and you don’t have to worry about playing games on the smartphone because whether you play PUBG Mobile, Rules of Survival, NBA 2K18, or even Asphalt 8. I didn’t have any problems running those games on the smartphone at the highest settings.

Software

The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Zen UI 4.0. The UI of the smartphone is user-friendly and I really find it fast as I didn’t experience lags, slowdowns, or crashes on the smartphone.

ASUS has finally optimized Zen UI in where apps are reduced and some are only optional and doesn’t come pre-installed on the smartphone, however, there are still some apps that you won’t probably use on the smartphone.

The smartphone also features Selfie Master in where you can add beautification levels on live stream applications such as Bigo, Facebook, Instagram, and many more. And of course, there’s the mobile manager on the smartphone that lets you manage and optimize the performance of the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro.

Camera

The biggest highlight of the ASUS Zenfone 4 series is that all smartphones now packs a dual lens camera setup and on the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro, we got a similar camera setup from the iPhone 7 Plus as the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro packs a standard lens and also a zoom lens that lets you do up to 10x zooming.

The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro actually has the best rear camera on a Zenfone to date. Not only that the smartphone is capable of shooting at low light but it can also shoot clear images even when you’re using the digital zoom of the smartphone.

Here are the sample shots using the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro.

As you can see from the sample shots above, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro achieves the camera performance of most flagship smartphones these days. The shots are good and as you can see, the shots are sharp and really detailed.

Use the zoom on the camera of the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro Camera

However, in some shots using the portrait mode of the camera app, I noticed that the edges sometimes misses but I’m surprised that it can shoot fast on portrait mode and the images are better than I expected. You can also adjust the blurring of the camera on portrait mode so you’ll know the amount of blurring that you’ll take. But of course, the portrait mode of the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro only works well if you are in a decent lighting condition.

The selfie camera of the smartphone is actually good and very clear. The shots that I took using the front camera showed me the right skin tone and the details were really good.

Using the rear camera of the smartphone, well, it’s actually better than I expected. The smartphone is capable of shooting at lowlight conditions and sometimes it’s even brighter and has less noise than I expected. The colors are great and even when you use the zooming function of the camera, the shots turned out to be great.

Battery Life

Here’s a surprising feature that I love on the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro. On paper, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro packs a 3600mAh battery inside and it really delivers the promise of having a long battery life on the smartphone. Actually, ever since I use the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro, it can actually last a single day on my use despite using the smartphone for gaming. And no, I didn’t asked for a powerbank for a day. It really has a good battery life.

Verdict

The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is a great smartphone. It’s not a perfect smartphone as this one doesn’t have water and dust resistance and it doesn’t have an 18:9 display aspect ratio and also a full-screen display which is a trend on flagship smartphones these days. But when it comes to performance and camera, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is really good. The battery of the smartphone can also last up to a single day which is a surprise for me as I’m a heavy user sometimes.

However, there’s a big problem with the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro. Yes, it does have some flaws but overall, the smartphone is solid. But the ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is expensive for its specifications. The ASUS Zenfone 4 Pro is available for Php39,995 which is way more than the price of the OnePlus 5T and LG G6. If only ASUS priced the Zenfone 4 Pro right, this would be a solid choice for the consumers.

ASUS and Vainglory Teams Up for the First Ever Max eSports Tournament

0

Mobile gaming is getting bigger and better every single day. Smartphone games have increasingly more competitive and also optimized for smartphones and tablets. Recently, ASUS and Vainglory have partnered to bring their first-ever Max Esports tournament.

The tournament is a 3v3 showdown with 4 teams among members of the ZenFan community, media, and also fans of the game. They’ve used ASUS Zenfone Max Plus Units for the game which is powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750T Octa-Core processor with 4GB of RAM, 4130mAh Battery, and also an 18:9 display which is perfect for gaming.

All of the heroes were unlocked in this game which is provided by Super Evil MegaCorp. The game was also recorded with Meldon Quindoy of ASUS Philippines and Darwell “Asurai” Llerena as the casters for the tournament.

Team Go which is composed of Darwin Del Rosario, Matthew Garcia, and Emman Tortoza emerged as the champion of the tournament as they beat Team Zoom composed of Christian Pena, Arian Ayuyac, and Vincent Haoson.

Team Zen’s Sionne Miranda, Chester Labaco, and Cyrus Villegas managed to capture the third-place podium as they beat Team Max Aci Borneo, Duey Guison, and Nico Guarte.

It’s really refreshing to see that ASUS has hosted an eSports tournament for smartphones and I do hope that they can do it again soon with more games and more teams. This is a great start for the Taiwanese company to showcase their smartphones and also its gaming prowess.
