Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus Review

1

There were 6 members in the Flare 5 series that was announced in the last Cherry Mobile Flare event and today, we’ll review one of those smartphones, the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus. This smartphone is one of the three smartphones introduced back then with 700MHz LTE and also some cool features. So what do I think about it? Check out my review of the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus below.

A premium build

Last year, Cherry Mobile went into the premium design route and this year, Cherry Mobile wants a more refine smartphone with a less bloated and cleaner software despite having the same processor that was used last year but of course, there are still some improvements made on the smartphone.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-12

The Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus packs a combination of the metal and plastic build but overall, I like the feel and holding the smartphone was better thanks to its back. Although, I kinda feel that the smartphone is a little bit thick and heavy. At the back is where you can find the plastic curved back that sports a brushed metal design.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-3

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-13

Actually, the curves feel perfect on my hand, however, the smartphone is really a fingerprint magnet. One new feature that you can see in the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus is the inclusion of the fast fingerprint sensor on the home button and unfortunately, the capacitive buttons don’t light up on the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus. Thankfully, instead of having a menu button on its one of the capacitive buttons, the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus now sports a recent tasks button. Very convenient for power users.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-5

On the right side of the smartphone is where you can find the volume rocker and the power button while the 3.5mm audio jack is placed at the top of the smartphone. The USB Type-C, however, is placed below the smartphone along with the speaker grill. Yep, USB Type-C.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-4

Despite having a metal frame, Cherry Mobile decided to have a removable back on this one but unfortunately, you cannot remove the battery of the smartphone. The back also houses the sim card slot and also the MicroSD card slot. Thankfully, you don’t need to sacrifice your second sim card slot for a MicroSD card compared to smartphones with a hybrid sim card tray.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-11

There’s a 3000mAh battery inside the smartphone and I was able to use the smartphone in a normal day of average use. However, heavy users should take note that they should bring a power bank or a charger with them most of the time. But hey, the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus is just one of the few smartphones that support 700MHz LTE.

A fine 5.5 inch Full HD Display

The Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS Display and actually, there’s nothing special about it aside from it looks just fine to me. The display has just the right colors except for the whites which are a little bit warmer. But whether you’re playing games or watching videos, the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus will do just fine.

The one that I got is a black one and the bezels won’t be noticeable until you turn on the display. I know, the display might not affect the performance of the smartphone but it does look annoying to me.

Same old’ CPU

The biggest issue that was voiced out by the fans was the CPU of the smartphone. It’s using the Mediatek MT6753 processor and also a 3GB of RAM.  However, the storage of the smartphone got bigger with a 32GB of internal storage and expandable via MicroSD.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-10

The smartphone works and feels just fine. If you’re just a regular consumer who just wants to play casual games, browse the internet and even do multitasking, the Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus would do its job well. Actually, the smartphone feels faster compared to its predecessor because this smartphone sports fewer bloatware and the software feels breezy and fast.

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-9

You can play the likes of Asphalt 8 on this smartphone but as expected, you’ll have to put down the settings.  NBA 2k17 can run on this smartphone however, you should set the game at the lowest settings to make it playable.

A good camera at decent conditions

cherry-mobile-flare-s5-plus-15

The Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus sports a camera better than its predecessor in my review. At decent lighting conditions, I got sharp photos and the color looks just right. There’s not much noise too when shooting at fair conditions however it might struggle at shooting in low-lit conditions. Check out the shots that we took using the smartphone.

Verdict

The Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus iears priced at P8,999 which is more expensive than the last y’s Flare S4 Plus starting price. Also, we still have the same MediaTek processor and 3GB of RAM but nonetheless, the smartphone feels snappier thanks to its cleaner software, also, there’s a bigger 32GB of RAM, 700MHz support, and also a fast fingerprint sensor on this smartphone too. However, if you’re looking for a better performer, I think you might want to look at the Cherry Mobile Flare X2 (which we will review soon)

The Cherry Mobile Flare S5 Plus is now available for P8,999.

Qualcomm Snapdragon now supports full Windows 10

0

One of the biggest blunders that Microsoft has suffered in its recent history is their use of Windows RT or Windows 10 Mobile. The Windows 10 version that is running on ARM processors. So why is it a fail? Well, because those device that are running on Windows RT or Windows 10 Mobile can’t run full Windows desktop games and apps like Steam, DOTA 2, Adobe Photoshop, and many more. The only apps that you can run on Windows RT and Windows 10 Mobile are the one that’s available on the Windows Store, which is by the way, only offers a few apps and games.

Well, at the recent WinHEC event that happened in Shenzen, China. Microsoft and Qualcomm has finally joined forces to bring the full Windows 10 to Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Yep, Snapdragon processors, the same processor that is running on your Android smartphones like the LG G5 and ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe will now be able to run Win32 apps through x86 emulation on Windows 10.

So what does that mean? It means that you can now run applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Steam, and many more applications & games.

I’m more curious on how this one will perform on games especially those that requires a lot of power. For now, you can watch the video demo of Windows 10 running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.

Huawei P9 Camera Prowess Shown in Photography Exhibit

0

Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are definitely one of the best camera smartphones that you can find right now. Both smartphones pack a dual lens camera that is co-engineered with Leica. Actually, I’ve personally had a hands-on of the P9 Plus and the camera was really great.

And recently, to show off its photography prowess, Huawei Philippines recently had a Photography exhibit that showcased photos taken by different Huawei P9 & P9 Plus users. The black-and-white and bokeh shots that were taken using the P9 and P9 Plus are just amazing.

.

“>ambHuawei Philippines also introduced their ambassadors – Billy Mondonedo, Kara Chung, Camille Co, and Karl Ivan Presentacion. Their shots were also featured in the exhibit and they are just great.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom Leaks Out!

0

Looks like we can already what’s next for ASUS as a new Zenfone has just passed through TENAA and it’s the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom and yes, the main focus of this smartphone is camera but it also has a large battery that will make sure that your smartphone can last more than a day

ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom Specs

  • 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 Processor
  • 5.5-inch Full HD Display
  • 2/3/4GB RAM
  • 16/32/64GB Storage expandable via MicroSD
  • 16-megapixel rit lookear camera, dual lens, laser autofocus
  • 13-megapixel front camera
  • Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS
  • LTE
  • 4850mAh battery
  • Android 6.0

Well, it looks like the big bulge at the back is already gone in favor of a sleeker and thinner design. There’s a dual lens camera at the back of the smartphone and I guess that the zooming on the camera will work like how the iPhone 7 Plus camera when it comes to optical zoom.

There’s no word regarding official availability or price but this smartphone is expected to be announced this Zennovation at CES 2017.

Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite Review

0

The Cherry Mobile Flare X was well-received by the fans as this smartphone packs a specification and a price that is really affordable for its hardware and recently, Cherry Mobile has unveiled the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite, the lighter and an even more affordable version of the Cherry Mobile Flare X.

Smaller but still good

 img_20161023_113740

The Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite is smaller and has a less footprint than the Cherry Mobile Flare X. The Flare X Lite doesn’t have too many gimmicks with its design as this one features a simple plastic body with no nonsense design. Just a simple and working design on a smartphone.

On the front, there are the three capacitive buttons and unfortunately, it isn’t backlit and you would find a hard time using this smartphone when you’re in the dark. Nonetheless, the bezels aren’t that thick which adds to the cleaner look on the smartphone.

img_20161023_113840

img_20161023_113814

At the top is where you can find the 3.5mm jack and also the Micro USB port while the power button and the volume rocker are placed on the right side of the smartphone.

img_20161023_113615

At the back is where you can find the polycarbonate back and also the non-removable battery of the smartphone and unfortunately, there’s only a 2000mAh of battery that doesn’t last that long. The smartphone last only up to less than half a day on average use. Yes, whether you’re heavy on data or not, the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite will require you with a powerbank.

A great 5-inch display

One of the best features that the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite have is the Full HD display. Despite having only a P4,999 price tag, Cherry Mobile still managed to fit in a Full HD resolution in its 5-inch display. Yes, that’s 441ppi that’s why the screen is really crisp.

img_20161023_113518

It might not have the best color on its display but for its price, I wouldn’t complain. The smartphone actually has a pretty good display for its price.

It’s a powerful device for its price

The Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite has fit in a MediaTek MT6753 processor with 3GB of RAM. It might not be the latest and greatest MediaTek processor around but for its price of P4,999, this one is pretty great.

img_20161023_114028

The smartphone can handle taxing applications and games without a problem and it doesn’t heat up that much. Another thing to love in here is the stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow inside the smartphone with only a few bloatware compared to the Cherry Mobile Flare X.

Using this smartphone for games won’t be a problem as we were able to play some games including Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5, and NBA 2k16 without problems but again, the 2000mAh battery might not be enough for you.

A 16-megapixel rear camera

When it comes to pixel count, the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite has a better 16-megapixel rear camera compared to Cherry Mobile Flare X’s 13-megapixel rear camera. But is the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite better? Well, it’s actually a hit and miss for me as the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite tends to shoot better than the Cherry Mobile Flare X sometimes but sometimes, it isn’t

The camera of the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite requires a decent light to get a decent photo. The output isn’t the best or the sharpest that you can see but it’s actually “ok” for its price. Check out the photos that I took using the smartphone:

Verdict

img_20161023_113438

Actually, the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite is a really good smartphone when it comes to performance, display, price, and build, however, the battery of the smartphone is really a dealbreaker as this one only have a 2000mAh of battery. DO I recommend this smartphone? Sure, but only if you only bring your charger or powerbank with you always. But yeah, the Cherry Mobile Flare X Lite is still a good smartphone for me.

Smart World travel Wifi lets you browse the internet anywhere in the world

0

One of the biggest problems travel junkies face when travelling overseas is the lack of internet service. Most of the time, we tend to look for public WiFis or sometimes we just use roaming for our smartphones and for some just got a sim card for their local network. And recently, Smart has just launched their newest service, the Smart World Travel Wifi in where it lets you enjoy the internet anywhere in the world.

This service is even better than roaming this one is cheaper and in case you’re planning on crossing other countries on the same day, there’s no problem with that because you only need 1 day of subscription per day.

.

“>15293277_10209362051620918_811765541_o

Compared to other services, Smart World Travel Wifi offers a cheaper P390 for selected Asian countries and P490 for the rest of the world. This service will give you 24 hours of internet starting from its activation. Not only that, there’s LTE and also a 1GB of data mobile day which is bigger than the competition.

So how to get this? If you don’t have the Smart World Travel Wifi device with you, you can book from Smart at least 3 days before your scheduled date if you’re from Metro Manila and 5 days before your travel date. However, if you already have the device, you need to purchase your day pass at least 1 day in advance.

Payment of the Day pass can be done through your bill or debit card. Credit card payment option will be added at a later date.
