Apple Prepares OLED iPad Mini; Low-End and iPad Air Refreshes Scheduled for 2027

Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul to its tablet lineup by introducing a new iPad mini equipped with an OLED display. The updated model, code-named J510, is expected to arrive as the first major redesign for the mini series in half a decade. According to a Bloomberg report, this will align the iPad mini with Apple’s premium iPhone and iPad Pro models that already utilize OLED panels.

Move to OLED to Address Screen Glare and Boost Quality

The upcoming iPad mini J510 will replace the current LTPS LCD display with an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen. This panel upgrade is expected to offer deeper blacks, higher contrast ratios, and better readability.

It is rumored that the display size could see a minor increase to 8.7 inches, though it will likely remain at 60Hz. Due to the premium cost of OLED components, Apple is expected to raise the starting price beyond the current $599 price point.

More iPad Lineup Refreshes Coming in 2027

Following the debut of the OLED iPad mini, Apple is preparing updates for its low-end base iPad and mid-range iPad Air models. These devices are scheduled for a launch during the first half of 2027. The entry-level base iPad will receive a faster internal processor but will continue to use an LCD panel to maintain a lower price. Meanwhile, the iPad Air will be refreshed with new 11-inch and 13-inch variants, though it remains unclear if they will immediately adopt OLED screens.
