Samsung Galaxy S II Plus Specifications and Price in the Philippines: Same design with more Jelly Bean

0

Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the most popular Smartphones back in 2011 and it was succeeded by the Samsung Galaxy S III the following year. And just as expected, it was one of the best selling smartphones of Samsung. To give you some refresh, the Samsung Galaxy S II has a 4.3-inch WVGA screen which was considered big that time. (And now, 4.3-inch is too small for some people). Anyway, the Samsung Galaxy S II is powered by a Dual-Core Exynos processor. This one has the 1.2 GHz processor but they didn’t announce the specific processor on this one. I hope that it will be the Exynos or better. But I doubt that it will be better. There only a few difference between the original SGSII and this one. This one has Android 4.1 Jelly Bean already and this one will have a zero shutter lag so you can take a lot of photos and you don’t need to wait for it. The support for MicroSD is now up to 64 GB while the storage is down to 8 GB from 16 GB. So much for that plus on the name.

ASUS announces the Asus Vivotab Smart: Windows 8 Tablet at P26k!

0
Asus Vivotab Smart
Asus Vivotab Smart

Another Windows 8 tablet was announced that’ll arrive in the Philippines with a very affordable price tag. The Asus Vivotab Smart is a Windows 8 tablet powered by Intel Atom Z2760 which can be found on Samsung ATIV Smart PC and the one that I recently had a hands-on, the Acer Iconia Tab W510. I’ve said this before and I’ll share it again, this is a Full Windows 8 tablet and not Windows RT. The Vivotab Smart can run legacy x86 applications. In plain and simple English, you can play your old games or old applications on this tablet unlike Surface RT which can only play and use apps from the Windows Store.

The Asus Vivotab Smart got a 10.1-inch with 1366×768 display. If you are an iPad 3 or 4 user. Don’t worry guys, it doesn’t suck that much from what I experience on other Windows 8 tablets. The Asus Vivotab Smart also has an optional Transleeve keyboard that magnetically combines screen protection and a wireless keyboard. I guess the Transleeve keyboard acts just like the Smart Cover of iPad.

ASUS Vivotab Smart Specifications

  • 10.1-inch LED IPS Backlit-Display (1366×768)
  • Intel® Atom™ Z2760 Dual Core CPU @ 1.8GHz
  • 64 GB Storage with 32 GB ASUS Webstorage
  • 8 Megapixel Rear Camera w/ LED Flash and 2 Megapixel Front Camera
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Micro HDMI
  • Micro USB
  • MicroSD Card Reader
  • Windows 8

It will be available in the Philppines this Q1 in Black & White for P25,995. Not bad Asus. If you want some more storage and a lot less of iPad and more of a Windows 8, this is good one.

Razer Edge Announced!: A Windows 8 Tablet made for Gaming

0
Razer Edge
Razer Edge

The Project Fiona that was introduced from CES 2012 just transformed into Razer Edge! This thing is not just a tablet. This is a console, a full-feature PC with Windows 8 and a tablet. This baby, is every gamers dream, a must have for hardcores. The Razer Edge is very interesting because aside from having a specs that is enough to play the latest games on the market, this tablet like what I’ve said earlier transforms into a console. Yes, a console. You can transform it into a home console or a mobile console with those accessories which are sold separately. This baby is available in two variants — Razer Edge and Razer Edge Pro. Of course, the one with the Pro in the name is the one that has better specs. Do you want to know more about the specifications and what’s up in the tablet? click read more!

When the Project Fiona was announced last year, the tablet originally had a controller but the Razer Edge’s design was revised and just made it into an optional accessory. I think, that made sense. Why? The Tablets are made for portability and if the controller was sticked to the tablet then it will be less portable and it will be very annoying to put it on our small bag. It also gave way to more accessories to be attached on the Razer Edge like the dock and the keyboard.

The Keyboard dock looks nice. I really like their signature color — Green. The Mobile controller is very unique too, It looks like a Playstation Move controller attached to the tablet but it doesn’t look that bad. I really hope that the weight of the tablet and the controller won’t strain your hands and arms. And then there’s the docking station in which you can connect your display and different peripherals such as controllers.

The Razer Edge starts at $999 with this specifications:

  • 10.1” IPS 1366×768 Display
  • 1.7GHz / Turbo 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 Dual core w/ Hyper Threading Base
  • Intel HD4000 and NVIDIA GT 640M LE 1GB DDR3 with NVIDIA Optimus technology
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 64 GB SSD
  • 2 Megapixel Front facing camera
  • USB 3.0 x1

While here’s the bigger and better brother, Razer Edge Pro which starts at $1299

  • 10.1” IPS 1366×768 Display
  • 1.9GHz / Turbo 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 Dual core w/ Hyper Threading Base
  • Intel HD4000 and NVIDIA GT 640M LE 1GB DDR3 with NVIDIA Optimus technology
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 128/256 GB SSD
  • 2 Megapixel Front facing camera
  • USB 3.0 x1

The 1366×768 display sounds logical because a better display means more power. It could lessen the battery life of the tablet. They didn’t announce the battery life but I guess it should be around to 3-5 hours on normal usage or 2 hours of gaming. Expect a shorter battery life on gaming since this one uses a dedicated video card. The tablet will use the Intel HD4000 if it doesn’t need much power like when you’re browsing the web but if you’re playing games, the tablet automatically switch to NVIDIA.

The tablet will be available on Q1 and it starts at $999. The optional controller’s MSRP is $249. The docking station’s MSRP is $99 while the extended battery’s MSRP is $69.

This device is a beast. I wish I have one. I don’t think this one will be available locally but you can buy it online or some gray market. Don’t expect long battery life on this tablet because this tablet is made for gaming not for long travels or whatsoever. I still think that this one is a much better buy than the Surface Pro and even the entry level Macbook Air.

Do I want this? Yes. Will I buy this 2013? No, because I don’t have enough money. Unless someone will donate or just give me this unit. If you’re asking me for a review, I don’t think I can have one but I’ll try my best to convince Razer to lend me one (And of course ask it as an early Chritmas gift!) and show its prowess to you guys.

If you want to get one, it is available at Razer Zone

Huawei Ascend Mate Specifications: World’s Largest Smartphone with 6.1″ Screen

0

Who said that 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II is too big? The Huawei Ascend Mate just made the Samsung Galaxy Note II a dwarf. Why? Because the Huawei Ascend Mate packs a gigantic 6.1″ HD Screen! That’s .6″ bigger than the Galaxy Note II. Geez, what’s wrong with these manufacturers. They kept on creating smartphones with large screens and I think this one just won’t fit out pocket anymore. It’s also ridiculous to answer calls using phones with these kind of sizes. This is just too big for that. But let us look on the bright side. The 6.1″ HD display is great for watching movies and TV shows and it will be a breeze playing games on a Quad-Core powered smartphone with that large screen.

The phone got a plenty of battery juice which will be enough for 2 days according to Huawei. Don’t worry about the large screen, you can type in the phone using only one of your hand with the One hand UI. I was a little bit disappointed with Huawei for not including a Full HD Display but 1280×720 is not bad. Here take a look at the specs of the phone. It’s quite good.

Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL unveiled: Water resistant, 5-inch Full HD Display and Quad-Core Processor

0
Sony Xperia Z Combine
Sony Xperia Z Combine
Sony Xperia Z (L) and Sony Xperia ZL (R)

I love Sony phones because of their IP 57 water resistant and dust proof phones especially on those water resistant phones with a pretty good specs like the Sony Xperia Acro S. And now, Sony has decided to bring this to the successor of the Sony Xperia S. Aside from that, both phone also packs a 5″ Full HD LED Display with Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2 which is expected to all flagship phones this year. They are also powered by Quad-Core Krait processor which is also used by Nexus 4. And yes, there’s Android Jelly Bean inside but unfortunately it is 4.1 and not 4.2. So what’s the difference between the two aside from the design? Well, the other one is IP57-certified while the other one is not. Want to know who’s who? Check it out after the break

The Sony Xperia ZL is the one that doesn’t have the water resistant. That’s the phone with smaller bezel and with the camera on the lower right. The Xperia ZL is much lighter than the Z too. I guess the L on the ZL means Lite. That’s just my 2 cents. Aside from those mentioned specs a while ago both phones will sport LTE, MicroSD slot, 13 Megapixel Exmor R sensor, NFC and some features that can be found on a smartphone. Both phones are expected to be released this March but there’s no SRP yet.

I like the design of Sony’s newest flagship especially the water resistant feature. It has a fast Quad-core krait processor too. Not all phones has that feature and it will be very feasible to use when you’re taking a shower or when you’re at the beach taking photos and videos (oohhh at the shower). But I didn’t like how Sony execute this one. Why? This is a flagship phone and they just announced two phones with different designs and but almost similar features. This will just raise confusion to some people.

Nvidia Project Shield: Tegra 4 Android portable gaming console

Skyrim Streaming on Project Shield

CES 2013 is here! And we know that every CES, we always have Techgasms on every news that we see on different blogs and websites. Like this one, a gaming controller which reminds me of Xbox 360 controller and also a gaming device with a 5″ HD screen. This is also powered by Tegra 4 which was announced the same day. FYI, Nvidia claims that the Tegra 4 is the world’s fastest mobile processor. I was also excited to know that this device will be powered by Android Jelly Bean which means that a lot of games on Android will also work on this device. Yeah, you could play Dead trigger, GTA:VC and a lot of Android games on this device. (Hurray!). Want to know more about the device? Click read more!

Aside from having a fast Tegra 4 processor and Android Jelly Bean OS, the Project Shield will be also able to play PC games. How can the device do that? First, you need to have a GeForce video card and then you can stream your selected PC games to your Project Shield device. There’s TegraZone too in where you can download Android games which has better graphics than the one that can be found on Google Play. Tegra optimized games are known for having better graphics and more effects than the normal one. You can also plug in the device to your HDTV because the Project shield has HDMI. There’s a USB, audio jack and MicroSD card slot too. The battery life is expected to last up to 5-10 hours.

The price of this device wasn’t announced. I don’t think this device would be out very soon. If this thing would be produced soon, Well I hope that it won’t have a price tag that could hurt your pocket. Asus Nexus 7 was powered by Nvidia Tegra 3 and that tablet had an amazing low price. I hope that the Nvidia Project Shield could have a very affordable price too when it’s launch. I just have doubts about this device because not all have a fast network and the streaming of games from PC is only allowed on selected Nvidia graphic cards. I hope that they could add some more features on this device.

Top 3 things that I like about Windows 8

0

Windows 8 is great. I think. If you followed me on twitter, you’ll notice that I’m an Apple Fanboy. Ahm, well not really because I didn’t like the iPhone. I’ve been using a Macbook Pro and I always update my laptop to the latest OS X for the past 2 years. I only use Windows on Bootcamp when I’m playing games or applications that can only be run on Windows. FYI, Bootcamp is the application that you’ll use to install and use Windows natively on a Mac. When Windows 8 was announced, I was very excited to know that it’ll be optimize for touchscreen devices and the latest iteration of Windows could run on ARM processors. Awesome right? If you want to know more about the things that I like in Windows 8 then check it out by clicking read more

Windows 8 is optimized for touchscreen devices

Touchscreen devices are the future. There are Windows tablets even before the iPad was release. iPad just started the tablet revolution. The large library of apps that’s available on iOS helped the rise of the most popular tablet in the world right now, the iPad. And now, the world’s most popular operating system adapts the touchscreen devices. I’m not sure what will be Windows’ direction but since they adapted the Metro look, I guess they can’t turn their back. Imagine this, with Windows 8, instead of buying a tablet and a notebook, you could have both in one device. Why? Windows 8 paved the way for Hybrid, touchscreen notebooks and new devices.

Convergence. It’s here.

The Metro UI came first from Zune devices and then we saw it at Windows Phones and then the Microsoft’s desktop OS, Windows finally adapted the UI too. The services and products that Microsoft are making points to one thing — Convergence. Microsoft wants us to get used to the Metro UI of Windows Phones and Windows 8. IMO, the ecosystem of Microsoft isn’t that good compared to Google. But hey, what if we could have a single device for our phone and a Full PC by just docking it? That’s an awesome innovation for Windows.  I guess, the Windows 8 is that start of something. It’s the start of Convergence.

Windows 8 focus on apps

We loved how Apple executed the Apps on the iOS and now Microsoft did the same for the Windows Phone and Windows 8. Windows 8 has a lot of pre-installed metro apps like Music, Xbox, Bing, Photos, Messaging, Windows Store and More. Those are just some of the apps that are pre-installed on the new Windows devices. Windows Store is the Rival of Apple’s Mac App Store. Windows Store still has a few apps as of this moment. I think, it would grow soon since it’s Windows. It’s the OS that people got used to. It’s popular. Every new PC will be powered by Windows 8. C’mon!

These are just the 3 things that I like about Windows 8. Some of you might have a different view or perspective on Windows 8. I know, Windows 8 has a lot of cons like those expensive devices, hard to use in desktop and lot more. And FYI, I just bought a Samsung Ativ Smart PC at Amazon because I wanted to go back to Windows from Mac.
